Services We Provide

Newcastle Community Transport provides door to door transport to:-

  • Hospital / Medical appointments
  • Shopping Centres
  • Day Centres
  • Social Outings
  • Specialists / Doctors visits
  • Visits to friends or family
  • Community facilities e.g.: library, activity centres, support groups.
  NCTG Patrons  

Newcastle Community Transport also has a bus hiring scheme and can provide a wheelchair accessible minibus and trained driver to groups who assist people who are frail and elderly or younger people with a disability.

The bus hiring scheme operates on week days, out of hours and weekends.

How are Services Provided?

  • Minibuses are wheelchair accessible with extra rails and steps on vehicles to enable access
  • Individual car service
  • Subsidised taxi service
  • Subsidised hire car service

All drivers both paid and volunteer are:-

  • Trained to provide additional assistance if required
  • You can take a friend or carer with you on our service at no extra charge
  • We can provide information on other Home and Community Care services in the area
  • We organise regular social trips for our passengers to places of interest.

How Much Does It Cost?

People who use Home and Community Care services are only charged a proportion of the cost of the service.

Fares are dependent on distance travelled and are kept at an affordable level.

Multiple transport services in one week will be discounted.

All fares are negotiable and access to services will not be denied due to inability to pay.

Fares are used by the service to ensure continuous operation of vehicles and services.

Access to the Service

You can refer yourself or a doctor, relative ,friend, neighbour or other service can also refer you.

If you have not used the service before an assessment will be carried out to identify your needs and suitability for the service. This is usually conducted over the phone.

About Assessment

Once you are assessed as being eligible you will also be asked for permission to provide some of your information to the government department (Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care).

This information does not include your name or address and is only used in the planning of future services in your area. You have the right to refuse this information being given to the government department.

If you are approved as eligible you will be notified by post and service information will be forwarded to you within one week.

If you are assessed as not being eligible to use our services we will suggest other services which may be more appropriate.

All passenger information is confidential and you may access your personal information we have by making arrangements with the Service Manager
